Sgt Kevin Roseblade said: "The A429 is a main trunk road and a very good road. You have to add in the speed plus speed in a head-on crash.
"That's why the outcome of this collision was so awful."

"The children will be writing messages and cards to their friends in hospital to help them make a speedy recovery. "
