Speaking about the initial police finding that her daughter had drowned, Mrs MacKeown said: "I am convinced that they (the Indian police) were covering it up." Mrs MacKeown, who has insisted from the beginning that her daughter was sexually assaulted and murdered, has criticised the police investigation.
She has called for the police handling of the case to be "investigated as a crime". She told BBC News: "I'm not confident that they've got the right person, I think they're just making a public show to be honest.
"We've had many reports that they've done this before with other cases for a start off and I just think they're going to continue to try and cover themselves up and their mistakes."
