A boatyard has been badly damaged by a fierce fire which took several hours to extinguish.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent four engines to the blaze at Holyhead, Anglesey, at about 0730 GMT.

One onlooker said local people moved three boats and a burger van clear of Malcolm's Boatyard in Lon St Ffraid, Trearddur Bay.

The fire service said about half the building and much of its contents had been damaged. No-one was injured.

The blaze was put out by 1100 GMT, but some firefighters remained behind for some hours to damp down the building.

Investigators have been sent to find out what started it, but the cause is not yet known.
