Four facing fight death charges Stab murder accused pair remanded

Four people have been charged after the death of a father-of-five who was attacked during a fight in a park. A 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a father-of-seven attacked in a Lancashire park.

All four charged are due to appear at Burnley Magistrates' Court. They are both charged with murder and violent disorder.
A fifth man remains in custody. Mohammed Shahdab Akhtar, 19, of Scott Park Road, Burnley, and Omar Khalid, 19, of Fairfield Drive, Burnley, also appeared in court charged with violent disorder.

Omar Khalid, of Fairfield Drive, Burnley, and Mohammed Shahdab Akhtar, of Scott Park Road, Burnley, both 19, are charged with violent disorder. All four were remanded in custody until 17 March.
There had been a "large gathering" of between 30 to 50 people at Thompson Park the night Mr Shafiq died. Elizabeth Reed, prosecuting, said the victim suffered a fractured skull and a 6.7in (17cm) deep stab wound from a knife which caused "uncontrollable bleeding".
Mr Shafiq, 50, of York Street, Nelson, made a desperate call to police shortly before he was attacked. She explained that none of the weapons believed to have been used in the attack have yet been recovered.
