Serve Our Willing Warriors, a nonprofit organization, will host an open house from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Bull Run Warrior Retreat, 16013 Waterfall Rd., Haymarket.

The 11,000-square-foot retreat on 37 acres is a home away from home for wounded, ill and injured veterans and their families.

The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative employee volunteer organization, Novec Helps, is accepting donations of nonperishable food through Friday for its Operation Turkey food drive.

Suggested donations include breads and muffin mixes; buttermilk baking mix; instant mashed potatoes; pasta; rice; boxed desserts; sugar; flour; evaporated milk; pie crusts; and canned meats, vegetables, cranberry sauce, fruits, pie filling and gravy. No glass jars will be accepted.

Donations may be dropped off from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at Novec offices: 10323 Lomond Dr., Manassas; 5399 Wellington Branch Dr., Gainesville; and 14500 Minnieville Rd., Woodbridge.

Donations may also be delivered to the Northern Virginia Family Service SERVE location at 10056 Dean Dr., Manassas, or to ACTS at 3900 Acts Lane, Dumfries.

Public comment is sought on the Manassas master plan for parks, culture and recreation. The city hired a parks and recreation management consulting firm to oversee the process.

Open registration for Northern Virginia Community College’s spring semester begins Nov. 16. The 16-week semester starts Jan. 11. Students may register at any of the six campuses or at www.nvcc.edu.

The Prince William County Human Rights Commission is accepting nominations for the annual Human Rights Award. The deadline to submit a nomination is Nov. 23.

Local residents, nonprofit organizations and businesses may be nominated for outstanding accomplishments in the area of human rights.

Award recipients will be honored at the annual observance of Universal Human Rights Day on Jan. 16 at the McCoart Building, 1 County Complex Ct., Woodbridge.

Last year’s award recipients were Albert Brooks, Eleana Boyer, Cynthia Brown, the Rev. Luke Torian and Victoria Graham.

Bluebird Tours, a Prince William County Area Agency on Aging program, has planned a New Year’s Eve tour in Paradise, Pa., for residents 55 and older.

The bus will leave Manassas and Woodbridge on Dec. 31. The trip will include lunch at Miller’s Smorgasbord, a tour of Dutch country, dinner and a Christmas show at Dutch Apple Theatre with dancing, and a midnight toast. The next day, the group will travel to Delaware’s Winterthur Museum, Gardens and Library, followed by dinner at Cracker Barrel.

The deadline to register is Thursday.
