The court has heard that the family were bludgeoned to death with the 2lb engineering hammer in a "cold-blooded execution".
Mrs Samuels, a nurse at Manchester Royal Infirmary, was sexually assaulted before being struck with at least seven blows to the head.
Her daughter Kesha had her hands tied behind her back before she was killed in the same manner. Fred was found on the floor in the same bedroom as his mother.
Kesha, her mother and her brother suffered catastrophic injuries
Mrs Samuels lived with her son at Thelwall Avenue, Fallowfield, but Kesha lived with her father in Heaton Mersey, Cheshire.
She had decided to sleep at her mother's house on the night she was killed after returning from London on a late train.
Her father told the court how she was a talented and hardworking teenager who had appeared on ITV's Young Stars In Their Eyes in 2004.
When he gave evidence, Mr Williams admitted having sex with Mrs Samuels on the night of the murders and said he had fondled Kesha, with her consent, in her bedroom.
He told the jury he was ordered outside into the garden by Mrs Samuels when there was a knock at the door.
Mr Williams said he only returned inside and found the bodies after seeing a "hooded figure" leave the house.
The jury is continuing its deliberations.
