Version 0 of 1.

A child abuser from Devon who broke his bail conditions and fled to Thailand has been jailed for nine years.

Truck driver Sean McMahon, 46, from Whitcombe Farm, Kenton, had fled the UK in 1999. He was extradited back in January 2007.

At Exeter Crown Court he admitted two charges of attempted rape, three of indecent assault and two of indecency with a child.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Breach of trust

Prosecutor William Hart said the sexual abuse embarked on by McMahon happened at a girl's home in south Devon.

McMahon was arrested after his victim revealed what had happened to her. He then jumped bail.

He was found by the Thai authorities and extradited back to the UK.

Simon Laws, defending, said McMahon fled because his life had been threatened after the allegations came to light.

McMahon was told by Judge Paul Darlow: "These offences were a gross breach of trust against a young girl who was aged nine and 10."

In addition to the prison sentence, McMahon was banned from working with children indefinitely.
