Detectives have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact them. Police said they were investigating a similar attack on a woman driver on the same road over an hour earlier.
The woman escaped injury when a group of youths threw a bottle at the car she was driving about two miles outside Portaferry.
A PSNI spokesperson said her windscreen was shattered and she was very shaken by the incident.
