SeaFrance crossings from Dover to Calais remain suspended as a strike by ferry officers in France over a pay dispute continues.

The strike and high winds in the Channel caused road chaos on the M20 in Kent but a backlog of lorries waiting to enter Dover has now been cleared.

Operation Stack, in which the motorway is closed to allow lorries to park, has now been lifted by Kent Police.

SeaFrance said it was booking customers on to crossings with other operators.

"SeaFrance is working to end the action as soon as possible and contact between the parties is ongoing," said a spokeswoman.

"However the union demands amount to the equivalent of an 25% increase in salary costs over three years, which the company considers excessive and is not in a position to consider."
