Version 0 of 1.

A man was critically injured overnight in a crash involving a Prince George’s County fire truck and a van in the inner loop of the Beltway.

Prince George’s County Police are investigating the incident near Richie Marlboro Road around 11:45. p.m. Thursday, and closed a portion of the Beltway for several hours.

Fire authorities said on Twitter that the firefighters were responding to a crash in the same area when they were involved in an accident with a van. Fire Department spokeman Mark Brady said the vehicle ran into the rear of the engine.

It’s not clear what caused the fire truck and van to crash. Police were still investigating, spokesman Nicole Hubbard said.

A motorist from the van was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, Hubbard said. She said the man remains in critical and stable condition.

Two firefighters onboard the engine were taken to the hospital for check-ups, Brady said. They were treated and released.

The inner loop reopened around 3 a.m. Friday.
