Version 0 of 1.

Four militants have been killed in an overnight gunfight with police, authorities in Indian-administered Kashmir say.

The clash took place in the village of Saidapora in Shopian district, south of the summer capital, Srinagar.

The alleged militants were residents of the village who reportedly refused to surrender at the orders of police.

Tens of thousands of people have died since militants began fighting Indian rule in Kashmir nearly 20 years ago.

The police have stepped up their offensive against militants across the Kashmir valley over the past two months.

More than 20 militants, including a few commanders, have been killed.
