A fire has broken out at one of the largest gas terminal complexes in the UK, the fire service has confirmed. Fire crews are tackling a major blaze at one of the largest gas terminal complexes in the UK, Norfolk fire service has confirmed.
Bacton in Norfolk is one of the major terminals bringing North Sea natural gas ashore. The fire broke out in a water treatment plant at the Shell UK base on Paston Road in Bacton.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was directing fire engines and equipment to the terminal. Norfolk Fire Service confirmed 10 crews were dealing with a major incident.

The service, which received the emergency call at 1745 GMT, described the blaze as a major incident. Anna Hollis, from a nearby holiday park, said: "Just after the fire broke out we could see flames and smoke shooting up into the air and the alarm was going off very loudly.
John Ellis, emergency planning officer at the terminal, said fire crews are now at the Shell site at the Bacton Gas Terminal. "It was really alarming. We could see the fire was right in the centre of the terminal and there were helicopters flying all around.
He said he believed there had been an explosion related to a fire. "All we can see now is billowing black smoke."
Norfolk Fire Service, which received the emergency call at 1745 GMT, described the blaze as a major incident.
