(about 4 hours later)
Gloucester MP Parmjit Dhanda has travelled to Brussels to pitch for millions of pounds of flood recovery aid. MEPs have agreed to give £110m of recovery funding to areas of England hit by last summer's floods.
He will ask MEPs for more than £110m from the European Union Solidarity Fund on behalf of all areas of England hit by last summer's deluges. Gloucester MP Parmjit Dhanda and county councillor Julie Girling travelled to Brussels to pitch for the cash from the European Union Solidarity Fund.
Thousands of Gloucestershire homes and businesses were left under water. Thousands of Gloucestershire homes and businesses were left under water after the deluges last June and July.
Mr Dhanda said he hoped to get across to MEPs the "human side of suffering" faced by the victims. The condition of the spending is that it must be used on recovery and repairs to infrastructure such as roads.
"I also hope to get across the difference that this money could make. Local authorities must also give details of what resilience efforts they are making to prevent a repeat of the devastation should heavy rains fall again.
"We've already had £77m of government funding, just imagine what another £110m could do to aid our recovery."
