Version 0 of 1.

A man who raped a 52-year-old woman in her own home while her husband, who suffered from Alzheimer's, slept next door has been jailed for 10 years.

A jury at the High Court in Glasgow convicted George Murphy, 42, from Anfield, Liverpool, after trial.

Temporary judge Michael O'Grady QC said: "You have been convicted of an appalling course of conduct towards this woman."

Murphy was also convicted of stealing the woman's phone, bank cards and £800.

The court heard the victim had gone for a night out in Glasgow on 4 September 2005.

During the evening, she met Murphy who helped her get a taxi.

Indecent assault

Murphy joined her on the journey to her home in Glasgow's southside.

When she opened her door he followed her in and raped her.

During his trial, Murphy claimed the woman consented to sex.

Solicitor advocate Tony Quinn said: "My client never disputed the charges of stealing the bank cards and taking money."

Murphy's term will start at the end of a six-year sentence he is currently serving for robbery and indecent assault, committed in England.
