Police are continuing house-to-house inquiries in the search for missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews in a bid to find out more about her. Police have teamed up with a council to carry out bin searches in a bid to find fresh clues in their hunt for missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews.
Operations to find the nine-year-old resumed at first light as the search entered its seventh day. About 50 officers specially trained in search tactics are scouring bins in the area near her West Yorkshire home as the inquiry moved into its seventh day.
Officers have visited 200 homes and received more than 300 calls about Shannon, who failed to return to her West Yorkshire home on Tuesday. Kirklees Council said waste teams were accompanying police and emptying the bins after checks had been made.
Police said they were "gravely concerned" for the girl. Shannon Matthews failed to return to her home in Dewsbury Moor on Tuesday.
A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said: "West Yorkshire Police are carrying out a large number of searches in and around the area where Shannon lives. name="text"> Police said they were "gravely concerned" for the schoolgirl.

He added: "The bins have been left uncollected so officers can check their contents in the hope of uncovering any clue as to her whereabouts."
