Councillor Thomas O'Hanlon described the incident as "yet another tragic death on our border roads".
"I would appeal to all motorists to take extra care especially in rural areas, where driving conditions can vary due to the nature of the traffic and condition of the road surfaces.
"This is the 18th death this year and each one is one too many, we must make a collective effort to reduce the death toll."
