A Londonderry teenager has said he is disgusted that a man who abused him will be released from prison in months.

Michael Diver, from Carndonagh in Donegal, assaulted the teenager in a flat in the city on 17 March 2007. He was jailed for two years on Thursday.

The attack happened three months after Diver was freed from prison in the Republic of Ireland for a similar offence.

Diver has already served 11 months on remand and will be freed within months.

His victim, who did not want to be identified, said he found that hard to accept.

"I'm not ashamed of what happened," he said.

"It is building up again now a wee bit because of what happened in court. I don't know what's going to happen from here now though. I don't even think it has kicked in yet that he's going to be out in two months."

The teenager's mother said she still found it hard to accept what happened to her son.

Both the teenager and his mother have called for tighter cross-border controls on sex offenders.
