Inquiry after four crash deaths Tributes laid for crash teenagers
(about 10 hours later)
Police are continuing to piece together the events which led to an accident on a minor mountain road which killed four teenage friends from Ebbw Vale. Hundreds of floral tributes have been laid in memory of the four teenage girls who died in a car crash on a remote mountain road near Ebbw Vale.
Danielle Caswell and Katie Roberts, who were 15, and Louise Jones and Kayleigh Parry, both 16, all died at the scene of the single-car crash near the town. The teenagers, who all went to Glyncoed Comprehensive in the town, were in the back of a Vauxhall Corsa which was being driven by a 17-year-old friend.
The male driver and front passenger, both 17, were also injured. He and another boy, also 17, survived the crash on the B4560 road between Llangynidr and Beaufort.
Grieving friends have laid tributes, and counselling will be offered at the girls' school, Glyncoed Comprehensive. Police are still investigating the cause of Thursday night's crash.
The teenagers died when a Vauxhall Corsa crashed and rolled on the B4560 Llangynidr to Beaufort Road near Ebbw Vale at 2120 GMT on Thursday, settling 70ft from the road. Friends Danielle Caswell and Katie Roberts, who were 15, and Louise Jones and Kayleigh Parry, both 16, all died at the scene.
Police confirmed all six in the car were friends from the Ebbw Vale area and that they had been travelling towards Garnlydan, near where the crash happened. Grieving friends of the Year 11 students, who were due to take their GCSEs next summer, have been laying floral and soft tributes at the school gates all day.

Friends of the youngsters were in tears as they remembered them.
One of them Becky Love said she had last seen her friends on Tuesday at Halloween party at the local club in Garnlydan.
"We had a laugh...then we had this bad news on Thursday," she said.

Another friend Vanessa Ball said she was "really good friends with the family" of Katie Roberts.
"Fabulous girl, she'll just be so missed, so missed," she said.
Elaine Chappell, a neighbour of Louise and chair of the local residents' association said: "It's terrible - when we realised Louise was one of those in the car, everyone was devastated because she was such a bright, attractive girl.
"We saw the others going back and fore to the house, all bubbly, they had all their lives ahead of them. They were very nice girls and very popular at the school."

The road remained closed until Friday evening for police investigations to be carried out. The road with its sharp corners and steep dips can be treacherous, especially for inexperienced drivers. The speed limit is 60 miles an hour, although local people say even that is too fast and they want it changed..
Councillor John Williams said: "It's not the first time. This is a dangerous road if you use a speed limit (of) 60 miles an hour".
Superintendent Dean Richards said :"We really need to piece together now exactly what has happened prior to the accident and then obviously look at the exact cause of that accident.Superintendent Dean Richards said :"We really need to piece together now exactly what has happened prior to the accident and then obviously look at the exact cause of that accident.

'So tragic'
Supt Richards said the black Corsa the youngsters were travelling in was owned by the driver's family.
Since 1999 there have been four accidents at the accident spot but no fatalities until now.
"There have been accidents on that particular stretch of road but I wouldn't call it a cluster stretch," Supt Richards said.
Concerns have been raised about the road's accident record.
Elaine Chappell, chair of the Garnlydan Tenants and Residents' Associations, said: "It's so tragic. Everybody is going around asking people what they know.
"It isn't the first accident we've had there - there was one about a fortnight ago, just two minutes up the road, although we never got to know what happened."
Flowers and toys have been laid at the crash scene
Liberal Democrat MP Roger Williams described the stretch of road as "difficult" and "exposed" and said he would be following up whether it had been gritted.
"With winter coming suddenly this year, perhaps people weren't ready for the difficult conditions."
A spokesperson for Glyncoed Comprehensive said: "Our heartfelt condolences go the friends and family of all concerned for their tragic loss.
A teacher training day is being held on Monday, but the school will be opened and parents, pupils and staff will be offered counselling services from 1100 GMT, said the spokesperson.
Counselling will also be available on Tuesday, when the school reopens after half term.
